You Said, We Did

Explains how you can share with your ākonga what you did as a result of their feedback about their time at MIT.

Feedback from your ākonga comes in two main formats:

  • Informal e.g. conversations, emails and social media
  • Formal e.g. MyKoha including First Impressions, Course and Kaiako evaluations; Consistency, Monitoring, Student Council, Campus Student Rep meetings, Academic Lead Student, MIT webpage for Student Feedback

This article gives you some ideas on sharing with your ākonga, changes that you have made to the programme delivery, based on their formal feedback.

Ākonga feedback collected formally provides academic staff with the opportunity to improve their delivery and resources, as well as an opportunity to explain why some things might take a while to change. Feedback sometimes comes back to the teaching team too late to discuss with the ākonga who gave that feedback. It’s important to let your current ākonga know what they said, and what you have done about that. Each Canvas course using the MCS template has a Canvas page You Said We Did, in the Resources Module. This is where you let your class know how you’ve made changes.

Make sure early in the course delivery that your ākonga know how to find You Said We Did. Take a few minutes to discuss some of the changes you’ve made. Update the You Said We Did page at least once per year. The Canvas Standards template page comes with an example to help you get started.

Sharing your changes with your class should encourage our ākonga to provide feedback of their own, because they can see for themselves that giving feedback works. In turn, your surveys are completed and you have evidence that you are making your delivery better on an ongoing basis. Everyone benefits. Don’t forget to make sure your Head of School and Academic Leads are aware of what you want to change so if needed, you can get the support and resource you need to make the change effective.

You can download the Canvas Standards Template from the Commons page if you do not already have it. Click here to access and download the material.
