Do you have a teaching idea, project or approach that has made a difference for your learners? The MITU Learning and Teaching Symposium is looking for lecturers and kaimahi to share their practice at this year’s two-day event.
The Learning and Teaching Futures Symposium will be held across 23–24 November 2026, with one day at MIT’s Ōtara campus and the other at Unitec’s Wairaka campus.
The symposium will showcase excellent teaching practices, emerging ideas and innovations from across MIT and Unitec. It is also an opportunity to connect with colleagues, share ideas and explore the future of learning and teaching.
What can you share?
Your contribution does not need to be a finished project or something completely new. We want to hear about the things you are trying, developing and learning through your teaching.
You could share:
- a teaching practice that works well for your learners
- a teaching story or idea
- a demonstration
- a project or collaboration
- a poster
- a discussion session
- an emerging idea or concept
- a new approach to assessment
- an innovation in learning and teaching
Your idea does not need to be technology-focused. The focus is on sharing useful practice that can inspire and support others.
Choose a symposium theme
When you submit your idea, you will be asked to choose the theme that best matches your contribution:
Effective teaching practices
Share approaches that support learning and help learners succeed.
Inclusive teaching practice
Explore ways to create learning experiences that support a wide range of learners.
Institutional learning and teaching collaborations
Showcase projects and ideas developed through collaboration across MITU.
New practices in assessment
Share new approaches to assessment, feedback and demonstrating learning.
Technology innovation in learning and teaching
Show how technology is being used in new or useful ways to support learning.
Connect with the Teaching Excellence Standards
The symposium will also highlight practices that align with the MITU Teaching Excellence Standards, approved by the MITU Academic Committee in May 2026.
You do not need to work out the alignment yourself. The Working Group will work with accepted presenters to identify how their session connects with one or more of the standards.
How to submit
If you have an idea to share, complete the Microsoft Form by 5pm Thursday 17th September 2026.
The Working Group will review submissions and contact everyone who submits an idea. If your idea is selected, you will work with the Working Group to finalise the session format, timing and place in the programme. Presenters will receive further information by early October.
Have a great teaching idea? Share it. Your approach could inspire another lecturer and help shape the future of learning and teaching at MITU.
