This activity begins with the centre of it all: “My Need.” From there, you explore seven elements of strong prompt writing—like attitude, activity, persona, and source. Each section includes examples and tips. You don’t need to use every element, but each one helps you shape your thinking and boost clarity. When you reach the final circle, “Prompt,” you’ll see how all the pieces come together in a complete, ready-to-use prompt.
It’s built to sit seamlessly within the MIT Canvas Standards template and can be easily customised to suit your context or examples.

Here are five ways to use this resource:
- In Digital Skills or IT courses to introduce prompt writing for generative AI tools.
- In Communication modules to help clarify intent and audience.
- During staff workshops or PD sessions on using AI responsibly.
- In research or design classes to refine problem statements.
- As a companion task to AI tool use in any course.
