The Smart Search feature grasps the context of queries, delivering more accurate and relevant results without the need for complex search operators or tools
Smart Search is a new feature preview available in Canvas using advanced AI and semantic algorithms. The Smart Search feature understands the context of queries, providing more accurate and relevant results without needing complex search operators or tools.
Currently, the Smart Search feature is querying the following items within a course: Content pages, Announcements, Discussion prompts, Assessment descriptions.
- Navigate to Course Settings > Feature Options
- Enable the Smart Search Feature Option.
- Refresh your page, the Smart Search should have a green tick next to it now.
- Ensure “Search” is enabled in the Course Navigation menu by clicking three dots.
- Course Settings > Navigation> Enable Search or Drag/Drop to top section > Save
- After saving, refresh your page.
- Navigate to the Search area of course navigation and begin searching.
- In the search box, type in keyword(s), content, or just give a general gist of what you are looking for (“guitar”, “what are the steps of photosynthesis?”, “maths to turn a function into frequencies“).
- The very first search in a course may take a little bit of time to display results, as it initiates the indexing of course content. Subsequent searches should be quick.
