This page will help you to read the data in the PER, in particular the EFTS enrolments information.
EFTS stands for Equivalent Full-Time Student. 120 credits of study in a year is considered to be full-time.
It is important to remember that EFTs and student numbers may be different, depending on the credit value of your programme.
Exemplar
This shows you the number of EFTs enrolled onto your programme. It is also broken down into priority learner groups as identified by TEC.
This shows you the percentage of priority learner EFTs on your programme
EFTS Enrolments
The first thing you need to do is work out the EFT value of your programme
- A 120 credit programme has an EFT value of 1 – so each EFT in this data set is one student
- A 60 credit programme has an EFT value of 0.5 – so each EFT in this data set is 2 students
- A 40 credit programme has an EFT value of 0.33 – so each EFT in this data set is 3 students
- etc…
Example:
If the programme shown above is 120 credits then:
- 9.73 students are enrolled in 2020
- 3 students are māori
- 4 students are pasifika
- 6 students are under 25
- 1 student is international
If the programme is 60 credits then:
- 19.46 students are enrolled in 2020
- 6 students are māori
- 8 students are pasifika
- 12 students are under 25
- 2 students are international
EFTS as a percentage of enrolment
This data helps to identify any trends in priority group enrolments. Look for increases or decreases in %’s.
Example:
- Māori enrolments are steady over the last 3 years at around 22 – 33%
- Pasifika enrolments have increased slightly to 41%
- There is a significant jump in the under 25 group with 64% of enrolments being under 25
- This programme does not traditionally attract international students and they make up a small % of enrolments this year.
Hints and Tips
- Remember that students may identify as more than one priority group so your percentages may be over 100.
- e.g. a student could be under 25 and both Māori and Pasifika.
- Remember that the EFTs value and the number of students enrolled may be different.
