The MCS template has evolved. The new version is lighter, more flexible, and designed to give lecturers more control — while keeping consistency and clarity for students. Below is an overview of the key differences between MCS 2024/25 and MCS 2026.
Streamlined Content & Cleaner Layout
MCS 2024/25
- Contained quite a few pages in the welcome area, which led to heavy scrolling before students reached core course content.
- Course pages such as the syllabus were text-dense, which made key information harder to spot.
MCS 2026
- The syllabus page has been simplified. Only core sections remain (course aim, learning outcomes, assessment table, timetable, etc.), making it clearer and quicker to read.
- The welcome/resources module is pared back to only the essentials, with fewer items up front, so learners can see what matters right away.
Homepage Tweaks for Better Clarity
MCS 2024/25
- Customisable welcome blurbs were often inconsistently used or left blank, leading to uneven student experiences.
- Contact information and lecturer details were buried lower on the page.
MCS 2026
- Lecturer contact details are moved to the top of the homepage so students immediately know who their teacher is.
- The welcome blurb is now generic but helpful — a reliable guide for students when a custom text isn’t available. You can still add you own welcome message too!
Why Change? The Motivation Behind MCS 2026
- Lecturer & Student Feedback: We heard that too many initial pages in the modules distracted students and that the syllabus felt overworked.
- Clarity & Speed: Learners should get to essential course information faster.
- Flexibility without Chaos: Lecturers need room to adapt templates for their discipline, while still preserving coherence.
