Find and embed a Teams Recording on a Canvas page
Including online class / lecture recordings onto Canvas help students that may have missed a class or to refer back to for assessments.
Retrieve the Video via Chat
- Open Teams
- Navigate to the Chat tab on the left menu of your Teams application.
- Click on the video to open.
- The video will open in an internet browser tab in Microsoft Stream.
- Note: the video is not saved in Stream, it is saved in Documents inside the Recordings folder, the Stream application is used to view and play videos.
- Click on Share
- Select Copy link
- Click on the Copy button, to copy the link.
- Close the pop-up window.
Retrieve the Video via OneDrive
- Open OneDrive
- Navigate to My Files on the left menu
- Open the Recordings Folder
- Click on the video to open
- Click on Copy link
- Click on the Copy button
- Close the pop-up button
Adding the link on Canvas
- Go to Canvas, create a new page or click edit on the page that requires the link.
- Click on link icon.
- Paste the video link to Link field.
- Add a display text name into the Text field. This is what will be displayed on the page as the link.
- Click on Done.
- Click on Save.
Hints and Tips
- Instead of adding a link to each recordings, try saving all recordings into a SharePoint folder and add the link of the folder on Canvas.. Using SharePoint folders. (link to this article to come.)
- Another way of centralising Team Recordings is to save them into a Channel on Stream (Classic). See the article How to Create Stream Channels
- You may need to update the permissions on the video link setting, some students who missed this session may not be able to access this video via this link.
