Some generative AI tools like Otter.ai, Copilot and ChatGPT, include features that allow you to record or transcribe meetings, conversations, or spoken content.
At MIT, the use of AI-powered transcription tools is not allowed. This applies to both staff and students, and includes recording or transcribing meetings, classes, or private conversations using AI tools.
This feature is disabled unless you request it and approved by ICTS services.
If you are unsure or have questions about this, contact your manager or ICTS team for guidance.
Checklist: Use of AI Transcription Tools at MIT
- Be aware that some AI tools offer transcription features.
Copilot, ChatGPT, Otter.ai and other tools may include recording or transcription functions. - Do not use AI tools to record or transcribe any meetings, classes, or conversations.
Transcription features are not permitted at MIT for staff or students. - Check the settings of any AI tools you use.
Make sure transcription features are turned off or disabled. - If unsure, ask for guidance.
Contact your Head of School or the ICTS if you are not sure whether a tool includes transcription features.
