7 MyKoha: Survey Results, What Next?

Part seven of the MyKoha series provides useful tips on how to interpret feedback from students and consider an action plan as a result of the survey feedback.

The survey is now done! What’s next?

Surveys are only useful if the results are used to inform change. Read the feedback you received and then carefully plan out the course of action to make changes. Lecturers receive survey responses from the following surveys:

  • Start of Course Survey
  • End of Course Survey
  • Kaiako Evaluation Survey

Note: The First Impressions Survey results do not go to lecturers. They go to the service centres who can make best use of them, e.g. Ask Me! and Student Experience.

What do I do with the feedback?

  • Carefully read all the feedback and highlight key issues the students have raised.
  • If you can, avoid the negative comments and focus on the positive criticisms to help you plan changes.
  • Some feedback may not necessarily relate to your course, file these away or send them to the school management to deal with it, but make sure you follow up afterwards because your students will want to know their issues have been dealt with.
  • Develop a plan to address the issues raised.
  • Closed the loop by sharing with them what they said and the actions you intended to take as a result (You Said, We Did).
  • Include this as part of your PER if necessary
  • Include this as part of your ongoing course report to the Programme Committee.

How do I report back to the students?

It’s important to let your students know that you’ve taken on board what they’ve said. Tell your current students what they said in their Start of Course Survey responses and tell them how you’ve actioned any changes.

Tell the next cohort of students what they said in their Start of Course Survey responses and tell them how you’ve actioned any changes.

Use You Said We Did in Canvas to do this.

Hints and Tips

  • Lecturers who are Teachers on courses in Canvas receive Start of Course, End of Course and Kaiako Survey reports.
  • Heads of School also receive these survey reports.
  • Make sure you tell the students what you’ve done using You Said, We Did.
  • End of Course Surveys need to be reported to Programme Committee and stored in SharePoint as per MIT’s File Storage Protocol.
  • End of course surveys/Kaiako are collated (aggregated responses) and reported to Schools.
  • The statement “Overall this course is good” is used to determine overall student satisfaction.
  • Results are reported in a way to ensure the anonymity of individual academic staff.
  • Contact Evaluations@manukau.ac.nz if you have any questions.
